The Speckled Sharks played two nights recently in Corinth's only beer joint, the
Alley Galley. A few of the more dedicated Class of '79 showed up in support of our
favorite band. In fact, most of us showed up both nights. The pictures below
were taken on Friday night by Scott Monroe. Hopefully, Richard Peeples pictures from
Saturday night will be posted soon.

The Friday night show was standing room only. Lots of locals were there, no girl fights this year though. Kirk Peeples did throw a bottle or two at the stage to harass his brother. The Class of '80 was having their 20 year reunion Friday night at the Alley Galley. So, we saw lots of CHS alumni that night. It was hot this year in A.G.'s, but probably only 100 degrees F, a good 10 degrees cooler than a year ago.
The Saturday night crowd was lots lighter. But, you
all missed a really great show. The band was tighter than ever. Matt McWhirter
plays Bass, a mean Keyboard, and sings. Matt's day job is a school teacher in
Knoxville, TN. Richard plays Rythym guitar, Bass, and sings. His day job is a
Story Teller in the Orlando, FL public library system. Brandon Bingham plays drums
and was beating the hell out those skins. Those of you that only saw The Speckled
Sharks last year have not see the 4th member play, Brady Warren, Class of '80. I
couldn't even remember who he was until I looked up the picture in the CHS Annual.
Like me, he has gone gray headed and thinner on top. Now I realize why lots of you
guys didn't recognize me last year. Back to the point though, Brady can play the
hell out of that guitar!!! He has lots of Stevie Ray Vaughn licks down pat, along
with a few Pink Floyd tunes. Richard tells me he did even pick up a guitar until he
was 20 years old.
Comments from Richard on Saturday
night: "Saturday night at the Alley Galley was positively euphoric for me.
The crowd was with us from the first song and stayed there all night. I was literally high
from the music;I was floating; we just couldn't do anything wrong. As we were tearing down
our gear, I was putting my much-abused guitar in its case and I remarked to Brandon,
"I made love to my instrument tonight," and he said, "I raped mine!".
He really was on fire that night, taking "Magic Bus" and "Hey Joe" to
new levels. I told the other Sharks that if we never play again, I'll go happy."
On a more sensitive note, Richard showed me a scrapbook he had put together for
Bill Smith's Mom. Bill and Richard were great friends. Do you guys remember
Richard always carrying around his camera in High School? He took some great
pictures Bill in various settings and annotated the photos with memories, song lyrics, and
quotes that each picture inspired. I was touched by what Richard created in memory
of a departed friend, I'm sure his mother was too.
We missed all of you that did not attend this year. Don't let it happen again!!! Life is too short not to spend time with some of the best friends you ever had!
