CHS - Class of 79
History Since Graduation
Scott Monroe
After graduation I attended Northeast Junior College for one semester and then transferred to Mississippi State University. I majored in Chemical Engineering and got my B.S. degree in December 1983. I went to work for the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) in Bauxite, AR in January 1984. I've lived in Little Rock, AR ever since. I'm now the Quality Systems Manager for our manufacturing plant and service organizations. I've had a few opportunities to move, but Little Rock is nice and I have lots of friends here. So, I think I'll stay until they run me off!!
Jeanne Boothe, a 1980 Alcorn Central graduate, and I married in June 1981. We were married until March 1997. The divorce was amicable and we can still talk as friends. Jeanne stills lives in Little Rock and works for Baptist Hospital. We didn't have any children. I have a Chinese Pug named Hoss, got custody of him in the divorce. Ha!Ha! I've lived in the same house since we had it built in 1986. I'm enjoying being single again.
I was voted most changed male at the 1989 ten year reunion. Gone was the semi-long hair and the days of weighing 170 lb. Hopefully some of you will have gone downhill worse than me for the 20 year reunion and I won't be receiving this honor again. Just Kidding!!!!
I did manage to quit smoking and lose 70 something pounds in 1992 (see the formerly skinny me). Regretfully, the weight has mostly come back over the years. But, the cigarettes are no longer a temptation.
I raced off-road motorcycles in amateur endurance races for 4 years, 1993-1996, and had a great time. I started riding street motorcycles again in 1989 and continue to this day. I totaled out a brand new Honda CBR 600 in June 1994 going about 60 mph. I got lucky and only broke a collarbone and banged a knee up, landed in a grassy area, so no road rash. I'm riding a Honda ACE 1100 these days. Most folks think it's a Harley-Davidson, but it's just a more reliable copy.
I'm into to Home Theater also. I drool over the latest new equipment every month. I'm into DVDs right now. If you haven't seen or heard one, you won't believe how much better they are than VHS tape recordings. I guess I've become somewhat of a Hi-Fidelity snob. When I go to a movie theater I'm not happy unless the sound system is operating at Dolby Reference level (i.e., loud). I can't wait for High Definition TV to become affordable and broadcasts to become available in Little Rock.

Just like in High School, I'm still really into music. My favorite CDs these day are Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe, Seal - Human Being, Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, and Natalie Merchant - Ophelia. I'm a also a big fan of Sarah McLachlan's most recent releases; Surfacing and Fumbling Towards Ectasy. |
I still like to have a good time and am looking forward to partying with old friends later this year. Hope to see you all again at the 20 year reunion!!!
Trivia Question: Do any of the folks I ran around with remember the club we made up for the 1979 yearbook, N.H.A.H.S., and what it stood for????
